English meaning
Prajāpati applied the heat of contemplation to the worlds. From those worlds under that heat he drew out their essences: fire from earth, air from the intermediate region, and the sun from heaven.
Explanation
Abhyatapat evokes the heat and concentrated effort of tapas; rasa is essence. The sequence earth-fire, midregion-air and heaven-sun will lead to Vedic texts and sacred utterances in the next two units.
Context
The final section establishes the basis for corrective ritual utterances through a sequence of extracting essences.
