English meaning
Then the Gārhapatya fire instructed him: “Earth, fire, food and the sun are my forms. The person seen in the sun is I; I am that very one.”
Explanation
The Gārhapatya is one of the household sacrificial fires. “My forms” supplies the relationship implied by the four-item list rather than translating additional Sanskrit words. The unity of the solar person and the speaking fire is the contemplative focus.
Context
The three fires now give their individual teachings, beginning with the Gārhapatya.
