English meaning
Heaven is ud, the intermediate region gī, and earth tham. The sun is ud, wind gī, and fire tham. The Sāmaveda is ud, the Yajurveda gī, and the Ṛgveda tham. For one who understands and contemplates these syllables of udgītha in this way, speech yields the milk that speech can yield; that person has food and partakes of food.
Explanation
Dugdhe and dohaḥ evoke speech as a cow yielding milk: informed sacred speech is fruitful. Annavān means possessing food, not simply being wealthy, and annādaḥ means an eater or enjoyer of food. This is an ancient promise of ritual prosperity, not a guaranteed modern remedy for food insecurity.
