English meaning
All this is indeed Brahman. One should contemplate it in tranquility as tajjalān: born from that, dissolving into that, and living through that. A person is shaped by settled intention: as the person’s intention is in this world, so that person becomes after departing from here. Therefore one should form such an intention.
Explanation
Tajjalān is traditionally unpacked through “that,” birth, dissolution and breathing or living. It is a compressed Upaniṣadic expression rather than an ordinary complete sentence. Kratu here is settled purpose or conviction, not merely a ritual. The result belongs to the text’s religious account of existence after death.
Context
The Śāṇḍilya teaching joins Brahman’s all-inclusiveness with the practitioner’s settled intention and future state.
