अथ यां तृतीयां जुहुयात्तां जुहुयादपानाय स्वाहेत्यपानस्तृप्यति ॥ १ ॥

अन्वय
अथ [सः] याम् तृतीयाम् [आहुतिम्] जुहुयात्, ताम् अपानाय स्वाहा इति जुहुयात् । अपानः तृप्यति ।
हिन्दी अर्थ
फिर जो तीसरी आहुति दे, उसे “अपान के लिए स्वाहा” कहकर दे। इससे अपान तृप्त होता है।
English meaning
Then the third offering should be made with “Svāhā to apāna.” Apāna is thereby satisfied.
व्याख्या
अपान पाँच नामित प्राण-वृत्तियों में एक है। इस पद में केवल आहुति और उसकी तृप्ति है; अगले पद में उससे जुड़ी इन्द्रिय और विश्व-तत्त्वों का विस्तार आएगा।
Explanation
Apāna is one of five named vital functions. This unit gives the offering and its satisfaction; the next unfolds the associated faculty and cosmic powers.
