पर्जन्यो वाव गौतमाग्निस्तस्य वायुरेव समिदभ्रं धूमो विद्युदर्चिरशनिरङ्गाराह्रादनयो विस्फुलिङ्गाः ॥ १ ॥

English meaning
Gautama, the rain-bearing power Parjanya is a fire. Its fuel is wind; its smoke, cloud; its flame, lightning; its embers, the thunderbolt; and its sparks, the peals of thunder.
व्याख्या
बिजली, वज्रपात और गर्जना अलग-अलग अवयव हैं। अभ्र धुआँ है; उसे यहाँ सीधे वर्षा बना देने से अगले आहुति-फल का क्रम टूटेगा।
Explanation
Lightning, thunderbolt and thunder are assigned different roles. Cloud is smoke here; turning it directly into rain would obscure the next offering’s result.
