इति तु पञ्चम्यामाहुतावापः पुरुषवचसो भवन्तीति स उल्बावृतो गर्भो दश वा नव वा मासानन्तः शयित्वा यावद्वाथ जायते ॥ १ ॥

हिन्दी अर्थ
इस प्रकार पाँचवीं आहुति में जल ‘पुरुष’ नाम प्राप्त करता है। वह गर्भ झिल्ली से ढका हुआ भीतर दस या नौ महीने, अथवा जितनी अवधि हो, पड़ा रहता है और फिर जन्म लेता है।
English meaning
Thus, at the fifth offering, the waters acquire the designation “human being.” Covered by the fetal membrane, the embryo lies within for ten or nine months, or whatever the term may be, and then is born.
व्याख्या
उल्ब गर्भ को ढकने वाली झिल्ली है। दस या नौ महीने और यावद्वा, दोनों वैकल्पिक समयसूचनाएँ सुरक्षित हैं; इन्हें आज की चिकित्सकीय गर्भावधि-सीमा के रूप में लागू नहीं किया गया है।
Explanation
Ulba denotes the membrane enclosing the fetus. Both “ten or nine months” and the open-ended qualification are retained, not converted into modern clinical limits for pregnancy.
