English meaning
“Water is greater than food. When there is no good rain, living beings become distressed, thinking that food will be scarce. When there is good rain, they rejoice, thinking that food will be plentiful. This earth, the middle region, heaven, mountains, gods and humans, livestock and birds, grasses and trees, wild animals, down to insects, flying creatures and ants, are water that has taken form. These are indeed embodied forms of water. Contemplate water.”
Explanation
Prāṇāḥ is taken here as living beings. Calling every form embodied water belongs to this contemplative vision of the world, rather than a claim about modern chemical composition. Both statements about water taking form are retained.
Context
The need for rain in producing food leads to a more extensive contemplation of water.
