श्वेतकेतुर्हारुणेयः पञ्चालानाँ समितिमेयाय तँ ह प्रवाहणो जैवलिरुवाच कुमारानु त्वाशिषत्पितेत्यनु हि भगव इति ॥ १ ॥

आरुणि के पुत्र श्वेतकेतु पञ्चालों की सभा में गए। प्रवाहण जैवलि ने उनसे पूछा, “युवक, क्या तुम्हारे पिता ने तुम्हें शिक्षा दी है?” उन्होंने कहा, “हाँ, भगवन्, दी है।”
English meaning
Śvetaketu, the son of Āruṇi, went to the assembly of the Pañcālas. Pravāhaṇa Jaivali asked him, “Young man, has your father instructed you?” He replied, “Yes, revered sir, he has.”
व्याख्या
आरुणेय पिता से प्राप्त परिचय है; प्रवाहण और जैवलि एक ही राजा का नाम और वंशसूचक हैं। प्रारम्भिक प्रश्न आगे शिक्षा की सीमा को उजागर करेगा।
Explanation
Āruṇeya identifies Śvetaketu through his father. Pravāhaṇa and Jaivali are the name and lineage designation of one king. The opening question prepares the disclosure that his education is incomplete.
