Passage 1.1
English meaning
One should contemplate the syllable OM as the udgītha, for the chant is sung with OM. What follows is an explanation of it.
Explanation
The udgītha is a particular portion of a Sāman chant, and OM is here taken as its contemplative focus. Upāsīta calls for attentive contemplation, not merely repeating a sound. Akṣara immediately denotes the uttered syllable; translating it only as the imperishable Absolute would anticipate an interpretation that the opening sentence has not yet developed.
संदर्भ
ग्रन्थ का पहला खण्ड सामगान के उद्गीथ और ओम् के सम्बन्ध से आरम्भ होता है। आगे इसी सम्बन्ध को जगत्, वाणी और प्राण तक विस्तृत किया जाएगा।
Context
The opening section begins with the relationship between OM and the udgītha in Sāman chanting. It will develop that relationship through the world, speech and breath.
