अथ यां पञ्चमीं जुहुयात्तां जुहुयादुदानाय स्वाहेत्युदानस्तृप्यति ॥ १ ॥

अन्वय
अथ [सः] याम् पञ्चमीम् [आहुतिम्] जुहुयात्, ताम् उदानाय स्वाहा इति जुहुयात् । उदानः तृप्यति ।
हिन्दी अर्थ
फिर जो पाँचवीं आहुति दे, उसे “उदान के लिए स्वाहा” कहकर दे। इससे उदान तृप्त होता है।
English meaning
Then the fifth offering should be made with “Svāhā to udāna.” Udāna is thereby satisfied.
व्याख्या
उदान पाँच नामित प्राण-वृत्तियों में एक है। इस पद में केवल आहुति और उसकी तृप्ति है; अगले पद में उससे जुड़ी इन्द्रिय और विश्व-तत्त्वों का विस्तार आएगा।
Explanation
Udāna is one of five named vital functions. This unit gives the offering and its satisfaction; the next unfolds the associated faculty and cosmic powers.
