Passage 104.1
English meaning
“My dear, a person has sixteen parts. Do not eat for fifteen days; drink water as you wish. Vital breath is constituted of water, so it will not be cut off while you continue drinking.”
Explanation
The sixteen parts belong to this teaching’s structure. The fifteen-day fast is part of the historical narrative, not advice for readers to fast. Drinking water alone does not make a prolonged fast safe.
Context
Within the story, the father proposes a demonstration of food’s relation to recollection.
