Passage 136.1
English meaning
“What is bhūman, unbounded fullness, is happiness. There is no happiness in the limited; unbounded fullness alone is happiness. Therefore bhūman itself must be sought and understood.” Nārada said, “Sir, I wish to understand bhūman.”
Explanation
Bhūman carries senses of abundance, expansiveness and unbounded fullness, not merely a large material quantity. The denial of happiness in the limited is read within the search for complete happiness, rather than as a denial that ordinary small pleasures are experienced.
Context
The search for happiness reaches the decisive contrast between fullness and limitation.
