Passage 10.7
English meaning
His wife said to him, “Here, husband, are those very beans.” After eating them, he went to the sacrifice that had been laid out.
Explanation
Ime eva points back to the same beans; no new food has miraculously appeared. Vitatam describes the sacrifice as prepared and spread out for performance. Pate is the wife’s historically situated form of address, not a required way of speaking in present-day relationships.
Context
The food saved the previous evening now enables Uṣasti to go to the sacrificial ground. The narrative shows the need for food as practical support, not merely as an abstract doctrine.
