स ह खादित्वातिशेषाञ्जायाया आजहार साग्र एव सुभिक्षा बभूव तान्प्रतिगृह्य निदधौ ॥ ५ ॥

हिन्दी अर्थ
उन्होंने खाकर बचा हुआ भोजन अपनी पत्नी के लिए ले आए। उसे पहले ही पर्याप्त भिक्षा मिल चुकी थी; उसने वह भोजन लेकर सँभालकर रख दिया।
English meaning
After eating, he brought what remained to his wife. She had already obtained enough food by begging, so she accepted the leftovers and put them away.
व्याख्या
सुभिक्षा का अर्थ यहाँ पूरे प्रदेश में अकाल समाप्त हो जाना नहीं, पत्नी को पहले ही भोजन मिल जाना है। अतिशेष वे कुल्माष हैं जो उषस्ति के खाने के बाद बचे। पाठ पत्नी की एक ठोस क्रिया बताता है; इससे स्त्रियों के स्वभाव के बारे में कोई सामान्य निष्कर्ष जोड़ना आवश्यक नहीं।
Explanation
Subhikṣā here means that the wife had already obtained food, not that the regional famine had ended. Atiśeṣa refers to the beans remaining after Uṣasti ate. The text reports her particular action; no general claim about women’s nature needs to be added.
