स एष रसानाꣳ रसतमः परमः परार्ध्योऽष्टमो यदुद्गीथः ॥ ३ ॥

यह उद्गीथ उन सारों में सबसे अधिक सारभूत, परम, सर्वोच्च स्थान का अधिकारी और क्रम में आठवाँ है।
English meaning
This udgītha is the finest essence among those essences: supreme, deserving the highest place, and eighth in the sequence.
व्याख्या
अष्टमः का अर्थ आठवें अध्याय या आठवें स्वर से नहीं, पिछले अनुच्छेद के आठवें सार से है। रसतमः में तम प्रत्यय श्रेष्ठता को तीव्र करता है। परार्ध्यः ऊँचे मूल्य या सर्वोच्च स्थान के योग्य होने का संकेत है; इसे आधुनिक संख्यात्मक परार्ध से नहीं जोड़ना चाहिए।
Explanation
Aṣṭamaḥ refers to the eighth essence just enumerated, not an eighth chapter or musical note. Rasatamaḥ is a superlative, intensifying the notion of essence. Parārdhyaḥ conveys exceptional worth or fitness for the highest place, rather than a modern numerical sense of parārdha.
