यद्वै तत्पुरुषे शरीरमिदं वाव तद्यदिदमस्मिन्नन्तः पुरुषे हृदयमस्मिन्हीमे प्राणाः प्रतिष्ठिता एतदेव नातिशीयन्ते ॥ ४ ॥

यत् वै तत् पुरुषे शरीरम् [अस्ति], यत् इदम् अस्मिन् पुरुषे अन्तः हृदयम् [अस्ति], इदम् वाव तत् [अस्ति] । हि अस्मिन् इमे प्राणाः प्रतिष्ठिताः [सन्ति]; एतत् एव न अतिशीयन्ते ।
हिन्दी अर्थ
मनुष्य में जो वह शरीर है, वही मनुष्य के भीतर का यह हृदय है। इसी में ये प्राण प्रतिष्ठित हैं; वे इसे लाँघकर नहीं जाते।
English meaning
That body in the human being is this heart within the person. In it these vital powers are established, and they do not pass beyond it.
व्याख्या
हृदय यहाँ प्राणों का आन्तरिक आधार है। शरीर को हृदय कहना आकार की समानता का कथन नहीं, पूर्ववर्ती आश्रय-सम्बन्ध को भीतरी केन्द्र में संकुचित करना है। इसे आधुनिक अंग-विज्ञान की परिभाषा न माना जाए।
Explanation
The heart serves here as the inward support of the vital powers. Identifying body with heart is not an assertion of equal size but a concentration of the preceding support relation into an inner center. It is not a definition from modern anatomy.
