या वै सा पृथिवीयं वाव सा यदिदमस्मिन्पुरुषे शरीरमस्मिन्हीमे प्राणाः प्रतिष्ठिता एतदेव नातिशीयन्ते ॥ ३ ॥

हिन्दी अर्थ
जो पृथ्वी है, वही इस मनुष्य का यह शरीर है। इसी शरीर में ये प्राण प्रतिष्ठित हैं; वे इसे लाँघकर नहीं जाते।
English meaning
That earth is this body in the human being. In this body these vital powers are established, and they do not pass beyond it.
व्याख्या
पिछले वाक्य के भूतों के स्थान पर अब प्राण आते हैं। प्राणाः केवल एक श्वास नहीं, जीवित शरीर की विभिन्न जीवन-शक्तियाँ या इन्द्रिय-क्रियाएँ भी हो सकती हैं। उपमा दोनों स्तरों पर आधार और आश्रित का ढाँचा बनाए रखती है।
Explanation
Vital powers now occupy the place held by beings in the previous sentence. The plural prāṇāḥ need not mean breathing alone; it can include the body’s various living faculties. The correspondence preserves the relation between support and what depends on it.
