English meaning
He said, “Food. All these beings live by taking food to themselves. This is the deity associated with the pratihāra. If, after being warned by me in this way, you had sung the pratihāra without knowing it, your head would have fallen off; after being warned by me in this way.”
Explanation
Pratiharamāṇāni means taking or bringing food to oneself; the shared prati- sound and action explain the connection with pratihāra. Naming food as the deity makes nourishment the contemplative focus of this portion. The repeated tathoktasya mayā belongs to the closing textual formula and is not an accidental duplicated sentence.
Context
The three answers are now complete: vital breath for prastāva, the sun for udgītha, and food for pratihāra. A story that began with famine ends by making food a focus of contemplation.
