Passage 11.6
English meaning
Then the udgātṛ approached him and said, “You told me, ‘Udgātṛ! If you sing the udgītha without knowing its associated deity, your head will fall off.’ Which deity is that?”
Explanation
Upasasāda describes approaching to ask, not resuming the chant. Repeating the entire warning ties the exchange to the preceding section. Once again, the warning is quoted character speech, not a present-day curse on readers or singers of this text.
Context
After the answer concerning the prastāva, the udgītha singer asks in the same manner. Separate questions and answers preserve the distinctions among the three roles while showing their common pattern.
