अथ यत्संप्रति मध्यन्दिने स उद्गीथस्तदस्य देवा अन्वायत्तास्तस्मात्ते सत्तमाः प्राजापत्यानामुद्गीथभाजिनो ह्येतस्य साम्नः ॥ ५ ॥

अथ यत् संप्रति मध्यन्दिने [भवति], सः उद्गीथः [अस्ति] । अस्य देवाः तत् अन्वायत्ताः [सन्ति] । तस्मात् ते प्राजापत्यानाम् सत्तमाः [सन्ति]; हि एतस्य साम्नः उद्गीथभाजिनः [सन्ति] ।
हिन्दी अर्थ
ठीक मध्याह्न की अवस्था उद्गीथ है। उससे देवता सम्बद्ध हैं; इसलिए वे प्रजापति की सन्तानों में श्रेष्ठतम हैं, क्योंकि वे इस साम के उद्गीथ में भागी हैं।
English meaning
The phase at the very middle of the day is udgītha. The gods are connected with it; therefore they are the foremost among Prajāpati’s offspring, for they share in the udgītha of this Sāman.
व्याख्या
मध्याह्न सूर्य की उन्नत अवस्था है और उद्गीथ साम का प्रधान अंग माना गया है। प्राजापत्याः प्रजापति की सन्तानें हैं।
Explanation
The sun stands high at midday, corresponding to the prominence of the udgītha. Prājāpatyāḥ means Prajāpati’s offspring.
