तान्होवाच प्रातर्वः प्रतिवक्तास्मीति ते ह समित्पाणयः पूर्वाह्णे प्रतिचक्रमिरे तान्हानुपनीयै वैतदुवाच ॥ ७ ॥

हिन्दी अर्थ
राजा ने उनसे कहा, “कल प्रातः तुम्हें उत्तर दूँगा।” वे पूर्वाह्न में हाथों में समिधाएँ लिए उनके पास आए। राजा ने औपचारिक उपनयन किए बिना ही उनसे यह कहा।
English meaning
The king told them, “I will answer you in the morning.” In the forenoon they approached him carrying fuel sticks in their hands. Without formally initiating them, he gave the following teaching.
व्याख्या
समित्पाणि शिष्यत्व का पारम्परिक चिह्न है। अनुपनीय का अर्थ औपचारिक दीक्षा या उपनयन किए बिना है; यह राजा द्वारा तत्क्षण शिक्षा देने की विशिष्टता बताता है।
Explanation
Carrying fuel is a traditional sign of discipleship. Anupanīya means without a formal initiation; it highlights the manner in which the king proceeds to teach.
