English meaning
The ṛc and the Sāman are his two joints. Hence he is called the udgītha; hence the singer is called the Udgātṛ, for he sings of this one named Ut. This figure rules the worlds beyond that sun and the things desired by the gods. Such is the teaching concerning the deities.
Explanation
The ancient explanation glosses geṣṇau as two joints or articulations. Ṛc and Sāman become symbolic members of the figure’s form. Singing Ut motivates the ritual explanation of Udgātṛ and udgītha. Devakāmānām refers to the objects of divine desire; the next section will set the sphere of human desires alongside it.
Context
The golden person’s form and name are now linked with the entire series of ṛc–Sāman correspondences, closing the cosmic section.
