Passage 54.5
English meaning
Thus people say, “She will give birth” and “She has given birth.” This is the renewed production of that human sacrifice. Its death is its concluding ritual bath, the avabhṛtha.
Explanation
Soṣyati and asoṣṭa can be used for giving birth and for pressing Soma; the verbal parallel links human life with sacrifice. The feminine subject in the birth rendering is interpretive, since Sanskrit verbs do not mark gender. “Renewed production” is not silently converted into a separate teaching about postmortem reincarnation.
संदर्भ
जीवन-यज्ञ का रूपक जन्म की शब्दावली और अन्तिम मृत्यु तक विस्तृत होता है।
Context
The life-sacrifice image extends to the language of birth and to death as its close.
