अथ यद्धसति यज्जक्षति यन्मैथुनं चरति स्तुतशस्त्रैरेव तदेति ॥ ३ ॥

अथ यत् [सः] हसति, यत् जक्षति, यत् मैथुनम् चरति, तत् स्तुतशस्त्रैः एव [समानताम्] एति ।
हिन्दी अर्थ
जब वह हँसता है, भोजन करता है और मैथुन करता है, तब वह स्तुत तथा शस्त्र, गाए और बोले जाने वाले स्तोत्रों, के साथ समानता प्राप्त करता है।
English meaning
When the person laughs, feasts and engages in sexual intercourse, these correspond to the sung praises and recited hymns.
व्याख्या
स्तुतशस्त्र गान और शस्त्र-पाठ का संयुक्त पद है; शस्त्र यहाँ हथियार नहीं है। जक्षति को भक्षण या आनन्दपूर्ण भोजन के अर्थ में लिया गया है। हँसी, भोजन और मैथुन की पूरी सूची रखी गयी है; रूपक का अर्थ किसी नई नैतिक आज्ञा का विधान नहीं।
Explanation
Stutaśastra combines sung praise and recited liturgical praise; śastra here does not mean a weapon. Jakṣati is rendered as feasting or eating. Laughter, food and intercourse are all retained rather than sanitizing the list; their correspondence is not a newly imposed moral command.
