Passage 52.5
English meaning
When I said, “I take refuge in Bhūḥ,” I said precisely this: I take refuge in earth, in the intervening space, and in heaven.
Explanation
In this particular contemplation Bhūḥ does not stand only for earth; it includes the complete triad of earth, intervening space and heaven. Substituting only the familiar earth correspondence would omit two explicitly named worlds.
Context
The first of the three sacred utterances, Bhūḥ, is here expanded into refuge in all three worlds.
