Passage 52.4
English meaning
When I said, “I take refuge in the life-breath,” the meaning was this: all these beings, whatever exists, are the life-breath. In saying that, I took refuge in that very reality.
Explanation
By identifying prāṇa with all beings, the refuge is not limited to an individual act of breathing. Prāpatsi is an old first-person verbal form here, not a second-person “you will attain.” It is rendered as the speaker’s having taken refuge.
Context
The life-breath named in the refuge formula is now explained.
