Passage 48.6
English meaning
Not to anyone else, even if someone were to give him this entire earth, enclosed by waters and filled with wealth. This teaching is greater than that; this teaching is greater than that.
व्याख्या
भूमि शब्द स्पष्ट नहीं, पर जल से घिरी इमाम् का आशय पृथ्वी है। अन्त का दोहराव विद्या के मूल्य पर जोर देता है। धन लेकर शिक्षण करने का कोई आधुनिक व्यावहारिक नियम यहाँ से अपने आप नहीं निकलता।
Explanation
The feminine “this,” enclosed by waters, refers to the earth although the noun is implicit. The closing repetition emphasizes the teaching’s superior value. It should not be turned automatically into a modern practical rule about paid teaching.
संदर्भ
पिछले पात्रता-नियम को अतुलनीय धन के उदाहरण से और दृढ़ किया जाता है।
Context
The preceding restriction on recipients is reinforced through an image of incomparable wealth.
