English meaning
Ādi has two syllables and pratihāra four. Bringing one from the latter to the former makes them equal.
Explanation
The transfer is contemplative arithmetic: two and four are considered as three each. It is not an instruction to change the actual names of the chant portions.
Context
The syllables in the names of the seven chant portions are counted in a contemplation of equality and passage beyond death.
