तं चेद्ब्रूयुर्यदिदमस्मिन्ब्रह्मपुरे दहरं पुण्डरीकं वेश्म दहरोऽस्मिन्नन्तराकाशः किं तदत्र विद्यते यदन्वेष्टव्यं यद्वाव विजिज्ञासितव्यमिति स ब्रूयात् ॥ २ ॥

हिन्दी अर्थ
यदि उससे पूछा जाए, “इस ब्रह्मपुर में जो छोटा कमलाकार निवास है और उसमें जो छोटा आन्तरिक आकाश है, उसमें ऐसा क्या है जिसे खोजना चाहिए, जिसे विशेष रूप से जानने की इच्छा करनी चाहिए?” तो वह यह उत्तर दे।
English meaning
If someone asks him, “In this city of Brahman, in that small lotus-shaped dwelling and its small inner space, what is there that ought to be sought and understood?” he should give the following answer.

उत्तर का आरम्भ अगले अनुच्छेद में है। यहाँ प्रश्न और “वह कहे” दोनों सुरक्षित हैं; प्रश्न को गुरु का अपना निष्कर्ष नहीं माना गया है।
Explanation
