तस्मादु हैवंविद्यद्यपि चण्डालायोच्छिष्टं प्रयच्छेदात्मनि हैवास्य तद्वैश्वानरे हुतँ स्यादिति तदेष श्लोकः ॥ ४ ॥

तस्मात् उ ह एवम्वित् यदि अपि चण्डालाय उच्छिष्टम् प्रयच्छेत्, अस्य तत् आत्मनि वैश्वानरे ह एव हुतम् स्यात् इति । तत् एषः श्लोकः [भवति] ।
हिन्दी अर्थ
इसलिए ऐसा जानने वाला यदि चाण्डाल को भी बचा हुआ भोजन दे, तो उसका वह अर्पण इसी वैश्वानर आत्मा में आहुति हुआ माना जाए। इस विषय में यह श्लोक है।
English meaning
Therefore, even if one with this knowledge gives leftover food to a Caṇḍāla, that gift is an offering into this very Vaiśvānara self. On this there is a verse.
व्याख्या
चाण्डाल का ऐतिहासिक बहिष्कृत स्थान “यदि…भी” में झलकता है, पर अन्न पाने वाले में वही आत्मा मानकर आहुति का मूल्य स्वीकार किया जाता है। अनुवाद सामाजिक अपमान का समर्थन नहीं करता; उच्छिष्ट को ताजा भोजन बताकर शब्द भी नहीं छिपाता।
Explanation
The historically excluded status of the Caṇḍāla appears in “even if,” yet the recipient is recognized as a site of the same self and the gift as an offering. The translation neither endorses social stigma nor conceals ucchiṣṭa by calling it fresh food.
