English meaning
Then only one track is perfected and the other is neglected. Just as someone walking on one foot, or a chariot running on one wheel, comes to harm, so his sacrifice comes to harm. As the sacrifice is harmed, the sacrificer is harmed along with it. Having sacrificed, he becomes worse off.
Explanation
Pāpīyān here means becoming worse off through the defective rite, not only becoming morally wicked. The bodily and chariot images explain the need for the two courses to operate together.
Context
The consequence of the supervising priest’s premature speech is illustrated through two images of unbalanced motion.
