सा हैनमुवाच नाहमेतद्वेद तात यद्गोत्रस्त्वमसि बह्वहं चरन्ती परिचारिणी यौवने त्वामलभे साहमेतन्न वेद यद्गोत्रस्त्वमसि जबाला तु नामाहमस्मि सत्यकामो नाम त्वमसि स सत्यकाम एव जाबालो ब्रवीथा इति ॥ २ ॥

उसने कहा: “बेटा, मैं नहीं जानती कि तुम किस गोत्र के हो। युवावस्था में मैं परिचारिका के रूप में बहुत इधर-उधर सेवा करती थी; उसी समय मैंने तुम्हें पाया। इसलिए मैं नहीं जानती कि तुम्हारा गोत्र क्या है। मेरा नाम जबाला है और तुम्हारा नाम सत्यकाम है। तुम अपना परिचय सत्यकाम जाबाल ही देना।”
English meaning
She said, “Child, I do not know your lineage. In my youth I moved about much in service as an attendant, and during that time I had you. I therefore do not know your lineage. My name is Jabālā and yours is Satyakāma. Say that you are Satyakāma Jābāla.”
व्याख्या
बहु चरन्ती परिचारिणी सेवा में बहुत घूमने या अनेक काम करने को बताता है। पाठ जितना कहता है उससे आगे उसकी यौन-जीवन-कथा या नैतिक मूल्यांकन नहीं जोड़ा गया। जाबाल माता के नाम से बना परिचय है।
Explanation
The phrase describes much movement or activity in service. It does not license inventing details about Jabālā’s sexual history or judging her character. Jābāla identifies Satyakāma through his mother’s name.
