English meaning
This Self of mine within the heart is smaller than a grain of rice, barley, mustard seed, a grain of śyāmāka millet, or a husked kernel of that millet. This same Self within the heart is greater than earth, greater than the intervening space, greater than heaven, and greater than these worlds.
Explanation
The full sequence of rice, barley, mustard, millet and its husked kernel intensifies minuteness. Calling the same Self greater than the worlds prevents a merely physical reading of size. The grain name śyāmāka is retained rather than imposing a precise modern botanical identification.
Context
After the list of qualities, the inward Self is described as both exceedingly small and greater than the worlds.
