Passage 12.3
English meaning
It told them, “Come to me here in the morning.” Baka Dālbhya, or Glāva Maitreya, waited for this to happen.
Explanation
Mā here is the short pronoun “me,” not the prohibitive particle “do not.” Upasamīyāta is the selected source’s form; other witnesses have upasamīyata, and the ancient commentary itself discusses the long vowel. The sense is an instruction to come near, but the vowel has not been silently normalized in the padaccheda.
Context
The white dog fixes the morning and the same place for the gathering. The sage waits to hear the chant rather than leaving immediately.
