English meaning
The teacher said, “Dear one, you shine like a knower of Brahman. Who has instructed you?” He answered, “Beings other than humans. Yet I wish that you yourself would teach me, sir.”
Explanation
Iva, “like,” marks a visible indication rather than a formal certification. “Other than humans” gathers the preceding teachers together. Satyakāma does not reject what he learned; he asks for its fulfillment through his teacher.
Context
The teacher recognizes a change in Satyakāma, who nevertheless asks for instruction from him.
