English meaning
“Then someone might remove his blindfold and say, ‘Gandhāra lies in this direction; go this way.’ Intelligent and capable of understanding, he would ask from village to village and reach Gandhāra. In the same way, a person who has a teacher comes to know. For him the delay is only this: ‘Until I am released; then I shall attain union with Being.’”
Explanation
The teacher supplies direction, while intelligence and continued inquiry also matter. The closing sentence shifts from third person to “I shall be released.” Traditional interpretations relate the delay to remaining embodied life and final attainment, but “body” is not stated in the sentence itself.
Context
The guide removes the blindfold and gives direction; the learner then proceeds by asking and understanding.
