English meaning
One who knows this Rathantara Sāman as woven into fire gains the lustre associated with sacred learning and becomes an eater of food. He reaches his full span of life, lives long, and becomes great through offspring and livestock, and great in renown. He should neither sip water nor spit while facing the fire; this is his observance.
Explanation
Brahmavarcas denotes the lustre of sacred learning and conduct. Ācāmet is rendered as ritual sipping; the ancient commentary extends the prohibition to consuming anything while facing the fire.
Context
The Rathantara Sāman is contemplated in the sequence from kindling a fire to its extinction.
