स एवमेतद्गायत्रं प्राणेषु प्रोतं वेद प्राणी भवति सर्वमायुरेति ज्योग्जीवति महान्प्रजया पशुभिर्भवति महान्कीर्त्या महामनाः स्यात्तद्व्रतम् ॥ २ ॥

हिन्दी अर्थ
जो इस गायत्र साम को इस प्रकार प्राण-शक्तियों में गुँथा हुआ जानता है, वह पूर्ण प्राण-शक्ति से सम्पन्न होता है। वह सम्पूर्ण आयु को प्राप्त होता है, दीर्घकाल तक जीवित रहता है, सन्तान और पशुओं से महान् तथा कीर्ति से महान् होता है। उसे उदारमन होना चाहिए; यही उसका व्रत है।
English meaning
One who knows this Gāyatra Sāman as woven through the vital faculties becomes fully endowed with vitality. He reaches his full span of life, lives long, and becomes great through offspring and livestock, and great in renown. He should be large-hearted; this is his observance.
व्याख्या
महामनाः संकीर्णता से मुक्त, बड़े मन वाला होने का नियम है। प्राणी यहाँ केवल जीवित प्राणी नहीं, अपनी जीवन-शक्तियों से सम्पन्न व्यक्ति है।
Explanation
Mahāmanāḥ prescribes breadth of mind rather than narrowness. Prāṇī here means someone endowed with vital faculties, not simply any living creature.
