ते वा एतेऽथर्वाङ्गिरस एतदितिहासपूराणमभ्यतपꣳस्तस्याभितप्तस्य यशस्तेज इन्द्रियं वीर्यमन्नाद्यꣳरसोऽजायत ॥ २ ॥

इन अथर्वाङ्गिरस मन्त्रों ने इस इतिहास-पुराण को तपाया। उसके तपाए जाने से यश, तेज, इन्द्रिय-सामर्थ्य, वीर्य, अन्न-भोग और साररूप रस उत्पन्न हुआ।
English meaning
These Atharvan and Aṅgiras formulas heated this Itihāsa and Purāṇa. From it, thus heated, arose fame, radiance, sensory power, vigor, the enjoyment of food, and essential savor.
व्याख्या
तपाना यहाँ ऊष्मा, कर्म और एकाग्र साधना का संयुक्त रूपक है। यश, तेज, इन्द्रिय, वीर्य और अन्नाद्य को एक सामान्य सुख में समेटना सूची के अर्थ को घटा देगा। रस को सभी उपजों का सार भी पढ़ा जा सकता है; अनुवाद सूची और उसके सार दोनों को सामने रखता है।
Explanation
Heating evokes concentrated activity and ritual potency. Fame, radiance, sensory capacity, vigor and food-enjoyment are separately named benefits. Rasa may also gather them as a single essence; the translation retains both the enumerated benefits and their savor.
