English meaning
For a woman whom a man wishes to desire him, the ancient text describes inserting the penis into her, joining mouth to mouth, touching her genital region and reciting: “You arise from every limb; you are born from the heart. You are the essence of the limbs. Make this named woman intoxicated with desire for me, as if pierced by a poisoned arrow.”
Explanation
Artham in this context indicates the male sexual organ. Angakashaya addresses the body’s essence, while the poisoned-arrow image evokes overwhelming desire. This ancient desire-controlling rite does not confer a right to override another person’s autonomy or consent.
Context
After the renown formulas for agreement and refusal comes a formula intended to turn a woman’s desire toward the man.
