मैत्रेयीति होवाच याज्ञवल्क्यः उद्यास्यन् वा अरेऽहमस्मात्स्थानादस्मि । हन्त तेऽनया कात्यायन्यान्तं करवाणीति ॥ १ ॥

हिन्दी अर्थ
याज्ञवल्क्य ने कहा: मैत्रेयी, प्रिय, मैं इस अवस्था और स्थान से जाने वाला हूँ। आओ, तुम्हारे और इस कात्यायनी के बीच सम्पत्ति का बँटवारा निश्चित कर दूँ।
English meaning
Yajnavalkya said, “Maitreyi, my dear, I am about to leave this station of life. Let me settle a division between you and Katyayani.”
व्याख्या
अन्तं करवाणि का अर्थ यहाँ दोनों के हिस्सों की सीमा निश्चित करना लिया गया है। सम्पत्ति और गृहस्थावस्था अर्थ-सन्दर्भ से समझे जाते हैं; यह अनुच्छेद अपने-आप किसी विधिक बँटवारे की प्रक्रिया नहीं बताता।
Explanation
Antam karavani is taken here as fixing the boundary between the two shares. Property and the domestic station are understood from the context; this passage does not prescribe a legal process for dividing an estate.
