अथात्मनेऽन्नाद्यमागायत् । यद्धि किञ्चान्नमद्यतेऽनेनैव तदद्यते । इह प्रतितिष्ठति ॥ १७ ॥

अथ [प्राणः] आत्मने अन्नाद्यम् आगायत् । हि यत् किञ्च अन्नम् अद्यते, तत् अनेन एव अद्यते । इह [अन्नाद्ये प्राणः] प्रतितिष्ठति ।
हिन्दी अर्थ
फिर उसने अपने लिए अन्न और उसे खाने की सामर्थ्य गायी। जो भी अन्न खाया जाता है, वह इसी के द्वारा खाया जाता है और यहीं टिकता है।
English meaning
It then sang food and the power to eat for itself. Whatever food is eaten is eaten through this power and comes to rest here.
व्याख्या
अन्नाद्यम् में अन्न तथा अन्न-भोग की क्षमता दोनों का भाव है। अगले अनुच्छेद में दूसरी शक्तियाँ इसी पोषण में हिस्सा माँगेंगी; इससे प्राण की केंद्रीय भूमिका स्पष्ट होगी।
Explanation
Annadyam suggests both food and the ability to enjoy or consume it. The other faculties will ask for a share in this nourishment in the next passage, establishing the vital power’s central role.
