अथ प्राणमत्यवहत् । स यदा मृत्युमत्यमुच्यत स वायुरभवत् । सोऽयं वायुः परेण मृत्युमतिक्रान्तः पवते ॥ १३ ॥

हिन्दी अर्थ
फिर उसने प्राण को पार पहुँचाया। जब वह मृत्यु से मुक्त हुआ, वह वायु हुआ। यह वायु मृत्यु को पार करके उसके परे बहती है।
English meaning
Next it carried the breathing faculty across. Released from death, it became wind. This wind blows beyond death, having passed beyond it.
व्याख्या
यहाँ पार ले जाए जाने वाला प्राण पहले का सीमित घ्राण-प्राण है, जबकि पार ले जाने वाला आसन्य प्राण कथा में रक्षक है। शब्द एक होने पर भी उनकी कथात्मक भूमिकाएँ अलग रखनी चाहिए।
Explanation
The prana being carried is the earlier limited faculty associated with smell; the protecting prana is the one carrying it across. The same word appears in different narrative roles and should not erase that distinction.
