English meaning
There are three worlds: the human world, the world of the ancestors and the world of the gods. The text says the human world is won through a son, not another action; the ancestral world through ritual action; and the divine world through knowledge. The divine world is called the highest of these worlds, and therefore knowledge is praised.
Explanation
Continuity through a son belongs to an ancient patrilineal conception. It is not treated as a present-day rule favouring sons or evaluating childless people. The sequence’s main conclusion is the praise of knowledge.
Context
After wealth and self, three ways of attaining worlds are distinguished.
