English meaning
When this self comes into weakness and seems to sink into confusion, the vital powers gather around it. Collecting the luminous elements of the faculties, it descends into the heart. When the person associated with sight turns away from the outward field, it no longer recognizes forms.
Explanation
The luminous elements describe the faculties’ powers of manifestation in ancient philosophical language. This is a religious account of the final condition, not a clinical test of consciousness or death.
Context
The preceding account of departure continues with the withdrawal of the faculties.
