स होवाचाजातशत्रुः यत्रैष एतत्सुप्तोऽभूद्य एष विज्ञानमयः पुरुषः क्वैष तदाभूत्कुत एतदागादिति । तदु ह न मेने गार्ग्यः ॥ १६ ॥

हिन्दी अर्थ
अजातशत्रु ने पूछा: जब यह विज्ञानमय पुरुष इस प्रकार सोया हुआ था, तब वह कहाँ था और अब कहाँ से आया? गार्ग्य इसे समझ नहीं पाए।
English meaning
Ajatashatru asked, “When this person constituted by awareness was asleep like this, where was he then, and from where has he now returned?” Gargya did not know.
व्याख्या
विज्ञानमय जानने की शक्ति से सम्बन्धित पुरुष है। प्रश्न देह के कमरे में रहने के बारे में नहीं, उस अनुभवकर्ता के बारे में है जो नींद में बाहरी वस्तुओं को नहीं जानता।
Explanation
Vijnanamaya describes the person in relation to the capacity for knowing. The question is not where the body remained in the room, but what became of the experiencer who ceased to know external objects.
