स होवाच तथा नस्त्वं गौतम मापराधास्तव च पितामहाः । यथेयं विद्येतः पूर्वं न कस्मिंश्चन ब्राह्मन उवास । तां त्वहं तुभ्यं वक्ष्यामि । को हि त्वैवं ब्रुवन्तमर्हति प्रत्याख्यातुमिति ॥ ८ ॥

राजा ने कहा, “गौतम, इसे हमारे विरुद्ध अपराध न मानिए, जैसे आपके पूर्वजों ने भी नहीं माना। इससे पहले यह विद्या किसी ब्राह्मण में नहीं रही थी। फिर भी मैं इसे आपको बताऊँगा। इस प्रकार आग्रह करने वाले आपको भला कौन लौटाने योग्य समझेगा?”
English meaning
The king said, “Gautama, do not take this as an offense on our part, just as your forefathers did not. Before this, this knowledge had never resided in any brahmana. Yet I shall teach it to you. Who could rightly turn away someone making the request as you do?”
