English meaning
Yajnavalkya said, “Gautama, wind is that thread. Through wind as the thread, this world, the other world and all beings are held together. Hence people say of a dead person, ‘His limbs have come apart,’ for wind as the thread holds them together.” “That is so, Yajnavalkya. Now explain the inner ruler.”
Explanation
Wind is understood as an integrating life-power. The limbs “coming apart” need not mean literal dismemberment; it evokes the loss of coordinated bodily life.
Context
The thread is identified before the inner ruler is discussed.
