रेतो होच्चक्राम । तत्संवत्सरं प्रोष्यागत्योवाच कथमशकत मदृते जीवितुमिति । ते होचुः यथा क्लीबा अप्रजायमाना रेतासा प्राणन्तः प्राणेन वदन्तो वाचा पश्यन्तश्चक्षुषा शृण्वन्तः श्रोत्रेण विद्वांसो मनसैवमजीविष्मेति । प्रविवेश ह रेतः ॥ १२ ॥

वीर्य निकल गया। एक वर्ष बाहर रहकर लौटने पर उसने पूछा, “मेरे बिना तुम कैसे जी सके?” उन्होंने कहा, “जैसे प्रजनन में असमर्थ पुरुष: वीर्य से सन्तान न उत्पन्न करते हुए, प्राण से साँस लेते हुए, वाणी से बोलते हुए, आँख से देखते हुए, कान से सुनते हुए और मन से जानते हुए हम ऐसे ही जीते रहे।” वीर्य फिर भीतर आ गया।
English meaning
Semen departed. After staying away for a year, it returned and asked, “How were you able to live without me?” They answered, “Like men unable to procreate: not producing offspring through semen, but breathing with breath, speaking with speech, seeing with the eye, hearing with the ear and knowing with the mind. That is how we lived.” Semen entered again.
